1 – What is the point of this project?

The goal of this project was to create a private URL-shortening service which doesn't require user registration. As we were happy with the result, we decided to go public instead and let everyone make use of the site.

2 – How long has this project existed?

The first version of smarturl.org was released a few days ago (1st of August) and it's taken a few days to create.

3 – Why create yet another URL-shortening service?

Mostly as a private challange and for fun. We know there are plenty of them and this is our research to see what information we might be able to extract from all this and present back as statistics.

4 – Can I use the source or design of smarturl.org?

Go ahead! None of the content is copyrighted. However, we would love if we still got the credits for creating it.

5 – I press the Submit-button and nothing happens, what's wrong?

Creating new links currently require you to have JavaScript enabled. Hopefully we get this fixed in the next version of the site.

6 – Your site looks really ugly in Internet Explorer 6, why?

Internet Explorer 6 was released in 2001, that's 9 years ago. Please upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer or switch to Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Opera.

7 – Is there any public API available?

Unfortunantly not, we hope to be able to add a REST API in a future release of the site.

8 – I like this project, is there anyway I can help?

We would love some feedback! What's good, what are we lacking, what can we improve and so on.
